Beetle diversity in dead wood is lower in non‐native than native tree species, especially those more distantly related to native species

چکیده

Non-native tree species are widely used in forest plantations. This may have negative consequences for biodiversity. Hitherto, most studies compared diversity between native and non-native stands, which makes it difficult to separate the impact of per se from stand characteristics. Our study, conducted south Sweden, compares saproxylic beetle across different nutritional groups, dead wood two four a block design after one three seasons. Such an approach allows analysis se. Mean richness (± SD) log was lower than (non-native trees: lodgepole pine: 10.7 5.3); Sitka spruce: 8.5 4.3), Douglas fir: 7.1 Japanese larch 9.4 4.6); Norway 12.0 6.0), Scots 12.3 5.2)). Sample-based rarefaction revealed that when only were pooled, higher all combined. The difference composition among strongly driven by bark consumers first season, while predators fungivores, differences smaller. Species differed season. Dissimilarity positively correlated with phylogenetic distances species. remotely related trees Of studied species, pine more closely consistently harboured richness. Synthesis applications. Although also harbour communities, use especially those reduces local beetles. Thus, biodiversity conservation, extensive is not recommended as this increases risk losing biodiversity, they distantly

Exotic taxa less related to native species are more invasive.

Some species introduced into new geographical areas from their native ranges wreak ecological and economic havoc in their new environment. Although many studies have searched for either species or habitat characteristics that predict invasiveness of exotic species, the match between characteristics of the invader and those of members of the existing native community may be essential to understa...

Diversity of macro-detritivores in dead wood is influenced by tree species, decay stage and environment

Diplopoda (millipedes) and Isopoda (woodlice) are among the most abundant macro-detritivores in temperate forests. These key regulators of plant litter decomposition are influenced by habitat and substrate quality, including that of dead wood. Dead wood provides shelter and resources to macro-detritivores, but the relative effects of tree species, wood decay stage, forest environment and their ...

Plants Role in Noise Reduction of Interior Walls (Comparison of Noise Absorption in Native Species and Non-Native Species)

Noise pollution is one of the most important features of architectural spaces having a great impact on the comfort of residents. Therefore, providing appropriate and sustainable solutions for noise pollution control is essential. Today, with the use of man-made synthetic materials, it has been tried to improve the sound performance of buildings. The purpose of this study is to show the characte...

Introduction bias: Cultivated alien plant species germinate raster and more abundantly than native species in Switzerland

Traits that differ between invasive alien and native plant species are frequently interpreted as traits conferring invasiveness. However. such dilferences could reHect an introduction bias of alien species, particularly clllLivated ones, 01' hllman-medialed selection of cultivars of these species with certain traits. We tested whether this is the case for germination characteristics that are fr...

Spatial heterogeneity influences native and nonnative plant species richness.

Spatial heterogeneity may have differential effects on the distribution of native and nonnative plant species richness. We examined the effects of spatial heterogeneity on native and nonnative plant species richness distributions in the central part of Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, USA. Spatial heterogeneity around vegetation plots was characterized using landscape metrics, environmen...
